First Down Camp

First Down camp is a 5-week program that introduces players to tackle football without player-to-player contact from USA Football certified coaches (usafootball.com). Players get to wear shoulder pads, helmets and jerseys, and experience catching, running and passing with gear on. Players will get fitted for helmets and shoulder pads. will run thru a series of tackling, blocking, catching and throwing drill stations and each session will end with a game of flag with equipment on (no contact.) Players will engage tackling dummies not player/player contact. The program is intended to simulate what a tackle practice involves and allow players to become familiar with equipment and rules. Players will participate in drills and end each session with a non-contact, flag football game in helmets and shoulder pads. The goal of the Spring First Down Camp is to demonstrate safe tackle practices and let players experience playing flag football in tackle gear in a non-contact, non-collision environment and expose families to what responsible tackle football looks like. Here is a video of last Summer’s First Down Camp to get an idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwHyQzapV2s

7-on-7

7-on-7 is a non-contact football program for tackle and flag players. 7-on-7 is a football format where line play is taken out of the game. There is no blocking nor running, just a QB and receivers vs a team of defenders. There is no tackling, players will be declared down when a defender touches them with both hands. QBs will be considered down if they do not throw the ball within a given timeframe (4-6 seconds)

7-on-7 is specifically cited by USA Football as a recommended activity (along with flag) for programs awaiting approval for inter-town competition,

The format is similar to flag football, where teams can reset downs by reaching a certain point on the field and eventually need to reach the end zone to score.

While the name of the drill is 7-on-7, it can be configured to accommodate any number of players. Games and teams will be organized according to player grade level to maximize participation and roughly even competition.

Cost: $75
